Bret Harte Elementary School is an engaging learning community located in the Bayview/Hunter's Point neighborhood of San Francisco, California. It is a vibrant neighborhood school that works hard to provide a safe, welcoming, and nurturing learning environment for students. With a small population of approximately 260 students in kindergarten through fifth grades, we are able to foster long lasting relationships with students and families - a mark of a true community school.

Academics
At Bret Harte School, our expectations for student learning are firmly linked to our mission statement. We want students to achieve academically, but even more, we want them to become responsible, contributing citizens. We provide a challenging academic program that encourages students to learn to think critically. We also work to provide the social and emotional guidance that students need to become adults who will contribute positively to their communities.
Before and After School Program
Kids’ Club is a before and after school enrichment and educational program at Bret Harte Elementary School. The program is offered to all students in grades K-5 and operates from 7:00am – 8:00am and 2:40pm – 6:00pm each day that school is in session. The program offers students an opportunity to complete homework and participate in activities such as arts and crafts, gardening, reading, math, science, sports and games.
Administration
Bret Harte Elementary School has been led by Vidrale Antoinette Franklin for the past five years. Under her leadership, the school is making new investments in improving teaching and learning and building community. As school site administrator, Principal Franklin plays a vital role in the daily operation of the school working to foster positive and productive places of work for teachers and staff as well as stimulating learning environments for students.

The best way to find out more about Bret Harte School is to spend some time with us, exploring our campus and meeting the people who study, work, and volunteer here. Every Tuesday and Thursday, beginning at 10:30am, you can join us for a brief information session followed by a student-guided campus tour. While you are here, you can also choose to sit in on a class, talk with students, parents and staff, and visit our art room.
