At Bret Harte Elementary School, our mission is to provide high quality instructional programs within a safe learning environment that maximizes individual talents and strengths, celebrates diversity and prepares students to be productive citizens.
                 
 

 

Our Vision 

At Bret Harte Elementary School we are committed to providing a school where every student achieves to their fullest potential. As a school, we develop and articulate programs and partnerships that create a supportive learning community characterized by high academic and social expectations, celebration of diversity, and effective instruction and classroom management.
  
The students at Bret Harte Elementary School are challenged to: embrace learning in an environment that is physically and emotionally nurturing while being intellectually challenging; be proficient readers and writers, expanding their skills in fluency and comprehension; be proficient in mathematics and science, expanding their knowledge and strengthening their critical thinking skills; experience and explore the visual and performing arts; use technology as a tool in cross-curricular learning; and develop skills and attitudes that will allow them to function naturally and effectively in a diverse world.

  

Faculty and staff at Bret Harte Elementary School are challenged to: engage students in rigorous, standards-based education; work collaboratively to implement best teaching practices and adjust their instruction to meet the needs of all students; and promote and embrace family participation throughout the school community.

 

Together we cultivate an environment where students reach their highest potential as unique individuals, lifelong learners, and productive citizens.

    
Our Commitments 

In order to achieve the vision of a school that functions as a Professional Learning Community, Bret Harte staff have made the following collective commitments:

·     Align and utilize the district-adopted curriculum and state content standards;

·     Maximize instructional time and keep students in the classroom;

·     Develop and implement common assessments including oral assessments, performance-based assessments, teacher-made tests and running records;

·     Analyze student learning data and modify our instruction to target specific learning needs;

·     Engage in meaningful, professional development to enhance teaching skills;

·     Utilize a variety of programs and instructional strategies to promote the academic, physical, social, and emotional success for all students;

·     Provide parents with resources, strategies, and information to help children succeed;

·     Share ownership of all students' academic and social learning;

·     Implement our behavior support plan with consistency;

·     Hold ourselves and our colleagues accountable for professional behavior and student success.
